
pUREAIRE VS. RAE
The following is a cost of ownership comparison for a RAE Systems RAEGuard PID gas detector with disposable lamp versus a PureAire gas detector with a low after-sale renewable sensor cell.
RAE Systems monitors use ultraviolet lamps. RAE Systems ultraviolet lamps have a one year warranty on pumps and 10.6 eV electrodless discharge lamps.1 RAE Systems RAEGuard PID mentions, during the course of normal operation, a film of gas vapor may build up inside the PID sensor.2 The rate of build-up depends on the type/and or the concentration of vapors being sampled.2 Cleaning the sensor helps avoid drifting response at high humidity.2 RAE Systems RAEGuard PID also mentions, periodically clean the lamp window to remove film deposits and restore lamp sensitivity.2 The calibration of all newly purchased RAE Systems instruments should be tested, by exposing the sensor(s) to known concentration calibration gas, before the instrument is used or put into service.3
PureAire monitors use a proprietary renewable sensor cell technology that only requires replacing the electrolyte and membrane. The price for recharging a PureAire sensor cell is only $34 dollars and the frequency is between 6 months and 2 years per sensor.
RAE Systems RAEGuard PID operates in temperatures from -20 C to 55 C (-4 F to 131 F) and humidity from 0-95% relative humidity (non-condensing).4
Many of PureAire sensor cells can operate in 100% RH condensing environments with virtually zero drift. Additionally, our renewable sensor cell can operate outdoors in Texas summer heat, or a North Dakota winter without the use of coolers and cell heaters.
